BBC – Amerikan Konfresinde Oylanacak OLan Ermeni Yasa Tasarısı Hakkında (İng.)

CHP Genel Başkan Yardımcısı Onur Öymen’in BBC’ye verdiği mülakat
11 Ekim 2007

Question: …

Öymen: It will definitely damage Turkish-American relations and Turkish-Armenian relations in case this resolution is adopted by the American Congress. At this moment we have to work to inform and educate the members of the Congress about the realities of the past. What Turkey has proposed to open to the suggestion of McCharty is to bring together the historians of both countries to determine what has happened exactly.

Question: …

Öymen: By our standards international law is in our side. We have law documentation on why these events could not be qualified as genocide. Presides, the British government and ministers said that the British government will not consider these events as a genocide because they have absolutely no prove, no documentation, nothing on that. The Turkish Government should inform the American public opinion, the Congress and the government what she has to do in case the resolution is adopted by the General Assembly of the Congress. So this is a crucial moment and on the one hand we have to inform the Congress but on the other hand we have to make clear how damaging it will be the results for Turkish-American relations in case the Congress adopts this resolution. The Turkish people are upset and no government in Turkey can resist to the reaction of the Turkish people. It is a very unfair treatment to Turkey. We believe that the Jewish lobby has changed its position and a number of this Jews comity that was with us in the past they changed their votes because of Turkish governments close relation with HAMAS.
